Epitome Jaguar Type 00 Sedan Drops by Imagination Land, Why Do We Even Bother Anymore?
The British automaker Jaguar Cars has been around in various forms since 1922 but just recently has decided to flirt with disaster via a major rebranding campaign that will see it hit the reset button, pull the plug, and dump its entire legacy in the trash bin. Of course, they say that Jag will emerge reborn and more powerful than ever.
But that remains to be seen – the quest for social media attention, of which they got plenty, should be doubled by real, tangible products, not fashion-inspired concepts. A long story short, last year, reports of Jaguar axing production of its current lineup became real when it stopped selling new cars at home in the UK.
Immediately, the Jaguar Land Rover (JLR) brand dropped a wacky reinvention strategy accompanied by a desire to break the mold, pink hues, upper and lower-letter branding, and much more – prompting the most logical question: "What does it all have to do with cars?" Nobody answered, of course.
But they did present a deeply controversial Jaguar Type 00 Design Concept at last year's Miami Fashion Week to preview the ultra-luxury EV lifestyle to come – where Jaguar wants to fight the likes of Rolls-Royce's Spectre. As the preview concept suggests, it won't do it with a two-door grand tourer.
Instead, the rumor mill has caught wind of production-intent prototypes of the highly controversial Type 00, and we quickly found out it morphed, as promised, into a sedan rather than an electric GT. That doesn't mean it's any less polarizing, so there were quite a few people interested in seeing what's under the thick camouflage.
No worries, the members of the imaginative realm of digital car content creators dwelling across the parallel universes of vehicular CGI are always happy to answer such calls to virtual action. So, this virtual artist, better known as Theottle on social media, has resorted to CGI slicing and dicing the Jaguar Type 00 Concept into a production EV saloon after the Brits "caused quite a commotion with the new branding exercise."
As far as we can tell right now, the future of Jaguar begins with the showcase of this upcoming new flagship limousine for the ailing brand. Having seen the spy shots of the heavily disguised car, the pixel master decided to peel the camouflage and render the Jaguar Type 00 concept into a production model of Jaguar's spiritual successor to the mighty XJ limousine.
In his latest behind-the-scenes making-of video embedded below, everything begins quite unconventionally – with the defunct second-generation Saab 9-5 from 2010-2012 as the silhouette placeholder for the big Jaguar sedan. The author then quickly skins it into a much larger Type 00 with four doors, and that's about it. With a boxy attitude, of course, and the edginess that would make Tesla's Cybertruck potentially fall in love with this rendering, also.
So, if you didn't like the preview concept, it's not exactly like the unofficial, hypothetical design project of the series-production sedan is going to win any beauty contests. Unfortunately, this and other CGI artists may be very close to the truth – and few customers might bother giving Jaguar another chance despite its trendy reinvention ethos. What do you think?
